2023-04-24 11:24:39

With the development of India’s economy and the popularity of smart phones, the market scale of its online game industry is getting bigger than before. According to some statistics, in 2020, the scale of Indian’s game market is about 1.1 billion dollars, and the user scale is about 350 million. Facing the huge market, more and more operators promote game in India. For chess and card games, the policy requirements of the Indian government cannot be generalized. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to find out the relevant policy regulations of chess and card games in different regions of India in order to reduce the error rate.

Some online board & card game In India

In India, board and card games can also be divided into skill and probability games, such as Rummy and Teen Patti. Probabilistic games have randomness and a certain element of luck; Skill game refers to the player skills to win the advantage of greater than probability advantage, is a technical content of the game. Games of chance are generally banned under the laws of the central government of India, and gambling is a game of chance, so not all real money game in India are legal.

Each state in India has its own specific laws, so the laws promulgated by the central government of India do not necessarily apply to other parts: not all games of chance are banned and not all skill games are allowed in each region of India. So knowing which areas allow games of chance and which do not allow games of skill is a good guide for board and card games publishment in India.

Different control policies across states

1. Game of chance

Probability games are banned in most states, but they are legal in Goa and Sikkim ( need require a license to publish them ). Both the governments have issued regulations and brought in game industry experts, the policy will be revised periodically.

Requirements for license:

1. Applicants must be individuals from Indian nationality or independent corporate entities registered in India;

2. Applicants must not have any criminal record;

3. The controlling interest and decision-making power of the applicant must be located in India;

2. Skill game

Such games are allowed in most states and do not require any licenses. This means that game companies can not only offer these games, but also legally promote them through various social media, television and websites. For example, in 2016, Galand promulgated the online game law, which stipulates that gambling is prohibited in Galand, but skill-based online games are allowed. Although they have the probability factor, they are still dominated by skills (including the Rummy game).

3. Game-banned states

① The states of Orissa and Assam have enacted a law banning skill-based games;

② In Maharashtra and Mumbai, gambling laws define online gaming (whether of skill or chance) as a prohibited offence;

③ Telangana has passed the Telangana Gaming (Amendment) Regulations 2017 and Telangana Gaming (Second Amendment) Regulations 2017 to ban all online and offline gambling activities;

volving regulations for online gaming in India

As the Indian government has begun to pay more attention to the legality of funds and taxation in the online games industry, it has taken “skill advantage” as the most important criterion for the legality of online games. It is certain that as the Indian online gaming industry grows, the relevant laws and regulations will be updated and changed gradually. In general, today’s Indian board game market has huge potential. If there are enough experienced overseas promotion teams and local operation teams, the market can be said to have unlimited possibilities.
